NSA Rule Book

These rules are the exception to the NSA Rules.

Conduct

Please ensure all players, coaches and fans are aware they must abide by appropriate conduct and behaviour.  In the event of inappropriate conduct or behaviour, Officials (umpires and/or tournament committee personnel) will take the following action:

o     Ask the coach to remove any player/fan whom the Official feels is undermining his or her authority. 

o     Officials will not restart games until the offending party has removed themselves or has been removed.

o     If the offending party refuses to leave, the official will abandon the game.  The coach of the team with an offending party will be called to the tournament committee and have the teams’ eligibility to participate further in the tournament reviewed.

 

1.

6/4 men/women

We are a 6 and 4 league. 6 men, 4 women on the field at one time. Minimum of 9 players are required to field a team; 10th spot in the lineup is an automatic out.

 

2.

Player age

All players must be 19 years of age or older, or turn 19 during the current season.

 

3.

Max 3 men batting

No more than three men may bat consecutively at any time, including the transition from the bottom to the top of the order.

 

4.

Equipment

During league games the home team must supply/set up home plate and bases and the away team must rake the field.

 

5.

Game time

Games will start no later than 6:45.

 

6.

Innings

Games will be 9 innings. Any alterations will be agreed upon by both coaches.

 

7.

Balls/Strikes

Balls and strikes are called. A foul ball on the third strike and the batter is out.

 

8.

Pitching

Pitches not in the 6 – 12 foot range will be called a ball.

 

9.

Run limit

Run limits are catch-up plus 5, with only the 9th inning being open.

 

10.

Mercy

Mercy rule is in effect. If up by 15 runs after seven innings, the game is over.

 

11.

Bunting

Women may bunt. After 20 feet from home plate, the woman must run the bunt line. If the batter does not run the bunt line and it is ruled she interfered with the play, she will be called out.

 

12.

Walks

A walked male batter, with a female batter following, advances to 2nd base; female following must bat.  A walk is considered any 4 balls.  The female batter must present herself on deck.

Positions

Women and men may play any position.

Catcher’s mask

Catcher's masks are optional.

 

15.

Cleats

Rubber or nylon cleats only.

 

16.

Out at the plate

Players will be called out if they step on, step in front of, or step behind home plate when the bat and ball make contact.  The ball must be a fair ball.

 

17.

20 foot rule

20 foot rule will be in effect. All plays at home will be forced plays; the catcher must touch home plate, or tag the runner.

 

18.

Interference

Infractions will be called. A runner who in the opinion of the umpire, physically interferes or attempts to interfere with a base player to prevent a double play, will be called out as will the closest runner to home plate.

 

19.

Player substitutions

There is no adding to the line-up during any game.   A female player may substitute once, she cannot return to the game unless an injury has been deemed by the umpire.

All players on line up must bat.

 

20.

Runner substitutions

Last able man or woman out, may substitute for a man; last able woman out may substitute for a woman.

 

21.

Injuries

‣1 An injured batter must make it to first base, and then may call for a runner.
‣2 An injured batter may leave the game.  An auto out will be called.

 

22.

Injured female

If an injured female cannot take her turn at bat, resulting in more than 3 men batting in a row, the female batters’ turn at bat is an automatic out.

 

23.

Lead-off

A runner may not leave the base until a pitched ball has crossed home plate.

 

24.

Catch and carry

A caught foul ball will be classified as a fair ball for base runners. Runners must tag up, and run after the ball has been caught.

 

25.

Out of play

Out of play boundaries will be decided on prior to the game.

 

26.

Authority

The umpires decision is final. Only coaches are allowed to approach the umpire to question a call.

 

27.

Ejections

In the event a player is ejected from a game, he or she will leave the park, not just the playing field, and it is the responsibility of the coaches to ensure the player leaves.  Ejections will be made at the umpires discretion.

 

28.

Suspensions

Suspensions will be considered on a case by case basis.

 

29.

Beer

No beer allowed on playing fields.  All beer must be in plastic cups.

 

30.

Weather

Games may be cancelled due to weather conditions without penalty. For all other cancellations, 24 hours notice prior to the scheduled game must be given to the other team or the canceling team will forfeit the game and lose the points.

At Diamond 3, the ball is live off the fence and netting. If the ball is deemed to go through the net, it will be a double; over, it is a home run.  If the ball is hit to the right of the chain link fence, there is no restriction to the number of bases allowed.

u Stan Jones

At Stan Jones, if the ball goes over the fence, it is considered a home run.

u Art Morris

At Art Morris, the first ball hit out of the park will be a home run; every other ball hit out will be a double.

Home Team

 

Score Sheets

 
MVP Nominations

Home team will be decided by coin toss. Home team is the official scorekeeper. Both teams are responsible for handing in score sheets to the concession.

Games without score sheets submitted will be considered a draw.

Teams to record on the score sheet, their vote for both MVP Female & MVP Male each game, for prizes at the closing ceremonies.

 

36.

Alcohol

Absolutely no alcohol outside of the beer gardens, or at Stan Jones Park, Art Morris Park, or Edward Milne High School. Breaking this rule may result in the person or team being tossed from the tournament.

 

37.

Maximum +/-

Maximum plus/minus is 10.

 

38.

Time Limit Sat/Sun

Saturday and Sunday games are 7 innings, with 1 hr, 15 minute time limit. Any inning started before the time limit will be played out.

 

39.

Time Limit Monday

The first round games in each division on Monday will be 1 hr, 15 minute time limit. The rest of the games on Monday have no time limit.

 

40.

Tie Breaker

Tie breaker (Monday only) international rule applies. The last player out will start the next inning on 2nd base and the game proceeds from there. This procedure will follow in each inning until the game is decided.

 

41.

Abuse

No verbal or physical abuse toward any other person attending the tournament, whether playing or watching, will be tolerated!
